Strengthening Communities Through Nonprofit Excellence

Nonprofit organizations are invaluable to our county, driving prosperity while serving vulnerable groups. More than just economic stimulators, nonprofits strengthen the bonds that unify our community by addressing unmet needs.

Much like for-profit ventures, thriving nonprofits rely on entrepreneurial vision and innovative strategies. They grow through volunteers and the generosity of donors who want to make a positive community impact.

I encourage you to engage with local nonprofits as they carry out their inspiring missions. From donating resources to volunteering time, our community must support these changemakers.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Jones
CEO, Howard County Economic Development Authority

Meet Chuck Scudder, devoted co-president of the Howard County Chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace, Inc. Their mission is to provide beds for less fortunate families, ensuring no child sleeps on the floor.

Leveraging a HoCo RISE Grant received in 2022, Sleep in Heavenly Peace upgraded to a new physical location in Columbia, marking a significant transition from their previous volunteer-based setup.

Our visit in March 2023 showcased the progress on their new shop, underscoring the organization's commitment to growth and community service.
