Expanding Horizons on Maryland Export Day |
|
On May 25th, we attended Maryland Export Day, organized by the Maryland/Washington D.C. District Export Councils (MD/D.C. DEC) to celebrate and highlight the significance of exporting for Maryland's economy. Howard County is broadening its horizons, attracting international businesses and fostering global trade.
This year’s event featured a spotlight on export successes in the African market, with distinguished speakers including Ambassador Aisha Dewa, Minister for Trade and Investment from the Embassy of Nigeria. Other notable participants included Kendee Yamaguchi, Deputy Assistant Secretary for U.S. Field, U.S. Commercial Service, Kevin Anderson, Maryland Secretary of Commerce and U.S. Department of Commerce specialists who discussed exporting to Nigeria, Morocco, Egypt, Ghana and South Africa.
Thank you to MD/D.C. DEC and all the participants for making this event a success. We look forward to seeing Maryland’s continued success on the global stage. |

Spotlighting our Creative Entrepreneurs |
|
Each week, we will feature an artist in our Accelerator space. Anna Child, a South Carolina-born artist based in Baltimore, MD, is known for her multilayered abstract paintings. Her work combines observation-based charcoal drawings, memory and cutouts to create dynamic, previously unknowable images. A Penland School of Crafts Core Fellow from 2005 to 2007, Child studied painting at the New York Studio School and Maryland Institute College of Art. In 2024, she received a Maryland State Arts Council grant and will be an Artist In Residence at Byrdcliffe Artist Colony this summer and Vermont Studio Center in the fall. |
